NUTCRACKER 2011
Dance Theatre of Jacksonville is thrilled to announce that we will be putting on our second annual production of, The Nutcracker. We are excited to once again participate in this holiday tradition that so many people enjoy around the world every year. We hope that your son or daughter can join us in this production and create memories that will last a lifetime. Please refer to this newsletter in answering all of your questions regarding the upcoming performance.
AUDITIONS
We are holding auditions to determine where the dancers best fit in the production.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO AUDITION?
Students are eligible to audition for The Nutcracker if by the fall of 2011 they are enrolled in a class at Dance Theatre of Jacksonville and going into the second grade.
HOW DOES THE AUDITION PROCESS WORK?
Dancers will be required to attend a two hour audition where they will learn pieces of choreography from the ballet and will audition the choreography for the directors.
WHEN AND WHERE WILL THE AUDITIONS TAKE PLACE?
The auditions will take place in Studio B at the Dance Theatre of Jacksonville.
May 24
5:30-7:30- Group A (those currently in Intermediate Ballet, Ballet II, Ballet Arts 1, and any other student who is will be going into the second grade by the fall of 2011 or who is not currently enrolled in a ballet class).
May 25
5:30-7:30- Group B (those currently in Junior Ballet, Ballet Technique I, Ballet Technique II or Ballet Technique III).
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO THE AUDITION?
Female dancers should wear pink tights, solid colored leotard, ballet skirt (optional), ballet slippers and pointe shoes (if currently enrolled in a pointe technique class). Hair should be in a bun and no jewelry (small earrings are acceptable).
Male dancers should wear black sweatpants, a white t-shirt and black ballet slippers.
IS THERE AN AUDITION FEE?
There is a $15.00 audition fee that will be collected during audition registration.
NUTCRACKER PERFORMANCE FEE
Each company member will pay a $300.00 performance fee. This fee covers all rehearsal time and contributes to the cost of costume, scenery, props, lighting, and venue rentals. $150.00 is due by June 1st and the remaining balance of $150.00 is due by August 16th.
MANDATORY NUTCRACKER INTENSIVE WEEKS:
The entire ballet will be set June 20-June 29. The dancer must be able to attend the rehearsals listed below to learn and clean their role. If you cannot commit to at least one full week of these rehearsals we are unable to put you in the show. Rehearsals will start at 9:00am and end around 5:00pm but dancers will not be required to be there the entire time. Stay tuned for a detailed schedule once casting is set.
